Another year goes by. This is the last edition of 2024.
Let’s start with some of the biggest tech moments of the year:
We started 2024 with Neuralink, the brain chip implant company, announcing its first successful human trial.
Krutrim became India’s first unicorn AI startup.
In March, millions across West and Central Africa were left without internet due to undersea cable failure.
Apple was forced to remove Whatsapp and Thread from the App Store by China.
Amazon entered the e-commerce market in Africa.
X temporarily shut down operations in Brazil.
NVIDIA became the world’s most valuable company (twice).
OpenAI achieved a $157 billion valuation.
Discord was banned in Russia and Turkey.
Tiktok’s founder, Zhang Yiming, became China’s richest man.
Ban looms over Tiktok in the US.
Apple released Vision Pro and Apple Intelligence.
OpenAI revealed GPT-4o and Sora. Google launched Veo 2.
Bitcoin surpassed $100,000.
Reddit went public.
Spotify became profitable.
Crowdstrike’s failure caused major IT outage of Windows devices across the world.
Google made a major breakthrough in quantum technology with Willow.
The biggest standout of the year was of course the rise of AI. If you don’t know what AI can do in your field that can help your work, you can be left behind by someone who knows it.
