New Technique Can Accelerate Language Models by 300x
Researchers at ETH Zurich have developed a technique that significantly enhances the speed of neural networks.
By introducing "fast feedforward" layers (FFF) using conditional matrix multiplication (CMM), they achieved a reduction of over 99% in computations for BERT, a transformer model used in language tasks.
This technique can be applied to large language models (LLMs) like GPT-3, offering the potential for faster and more efficient language processing.
Cigarette Waste Can Now Be Recycled To Produce Green Fuel
Researchers from Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania, have developed a method to extract triacetin, a compound useful in biodiesel production, from cigarette waste.
This approach provides an innovative solution to two environmental issues—cigarette waste and the high cost of biodiesel production.
With waste collection systems already in place for cigarette butts, the proposed recycling strategy involves pyrolysis treatment at 750°C, converting cigarette waste into valuable products like char, gas, and oil.
