Did Google Just Generate Doom In Real Time?

Doom on GameNGen

Google released the first demo of something called GameNGen, a neural network capable of real-time game generation over a long period of time.

Google’s paper highlighted that the game engine was able to interactively simulate the 1993 video game Doom (of course, it had to be) at more than 20 frames per second. Interactive simulation means these generations were not static videos or images, but players can interact with these generated elements as well.

The development involved training the model with Stable Diffusion v1.4 and mitigating auto-regression drift through Gaussian noise. Additionally, automatic reinforcement learning agents were used to gather large-scale data, bypassing the need for human players.

Although the research paper is available on arXiv, the game engine itself is not yet publicly accessible, and its claims haven't undergone peer review.
