Just over a week after OpenAI made Sora public, Google DeepMind launched its AI video generation model, Veo 2.
Here is how Google describes the Veo 2:
Veo 2 creates incredibly high-quality videos inw a wide range of subjects and styles. In head-to-head comparisons judged by human raters, Veo 2 achieved state-of-the-art results against leading models.
It brings an improved understanding of real-world physics and the nuances of human movement and expression, which helps improve its detail and realism overall. Veo 2 understands the unique language of cinematography: ask it for a genre, specify a lens, suggest cinematic effects and Veo 2 will deliver — at resolutions up to 4K, and extended to minutes in length. Ask for a low-angle tracking shot that glides through the middle of a scene, or a close-up shot on the face of a scientist looking through her microscope, and Veo 2 creates it. Suggest “18mm lens” in your prompt and Veo 2 knows to craft the wide angle shot that this lens is known for, or blur out the background and focus on your subject by putting "shallow depth of field" in your prompt.
Google reports that in testing, Veo 2 outperformed its competitors in human evaluations, where participants reviewed over 1,000 prompts and corresponding videos on MovieGenBench, a benchmark dataset. In these tests, Veo 2 was favored over Sora Turbo 58.8% of the time, with 14.5% of participants remaining neutral and 26.7% preferring Sora Turbo. While a single benchmark can't definitively determine the superior AI video generator, it's a promising indicator for Google that Veo 2 performs well in subjective assessments.

I haven’t tried but from what I’ve seen from independent accounts on X, the difference is stark.

Here’s a complex prompt run on Runway, Sora, Kling, and Veo 2.
Dang, Google's veo 2, same prompt.

Here’s another user loving the prompt adherence:
Everything here is 100% generated w/ Google Veo 2. I've got early access, and the visual fidelity and prompt adherence is genuinely nuts.
Let's test it together and have some fun. Drop your prompts below -- and for the next hour or so I'll reply with videos 👇

Also, humans in AI videos can finally eat noodles:
Google Veo 2 has done it.
We are now eating spaghett at last.

Gymnastics is often referred to as the Turing test for AI video generation. Veo 2 is on the verge of passing with flying colours.
@GoogleDeepMind So much better.

In a couple of years, it’ll probably be impossible to tell if a video is AI generated or not.
