This Founder is Building A 10x Better Tool Than Linktree
Deepak, Founder of Scrollme
Today, I interviewed Deepak, the founder of Scrollme. Deepak has been indie hacking for 8 years and is now building a link-in-bio tool that is 10x better than Linktree.
Who are you and what motivated you to be an indie hacker?
My name is Deepak. I've been building products and communities for nearly eight years now. I left my job in 2016 for the freedom. I wanted the freedom to create and be part of every step of the process.
What are some of your previous projects?
My previous projects include a talent scout platform for the media industry (failed), a gamified product management tool (got micro acquired), Habitate.io (the community platform for larger B2B brands, live, funded), C3 - community for community builders, and Scrollme.today ( 10x better alternative to Linktree)
Coming to ScrollMe, what prompted you to build it?
Scrollme
Scrollme is really a simple idea. One's work is their identity. And it's scattered on the internet. There are so many publishing and social media platforms. Apps like Linktree kind of help by putting all your links in one spot. But it's still a hassle—I have to click on each one separately to check them out. Most people probably won't click on all of them.
Hence I built Scrollme.today. It integrates with all these publishing and social platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Beehiiv, Facebook, etc. It makes a page that updates itself with your posts. When you click on the cards, they take you to the original post.
You can also manually add more cards, and arrange them however you like. Recently, we have also added the option to write and publish micro-blogs on the page.
What does ScrollMe offer that the competition does not?
Scrollme is really 10x better than any other link in bio, and the reason I'm saying that is because it's more than just bunch of links. It integrates with social platforms and creates a page full of your posts on the internet.
You can also micro-blog, meaning the first bio-link tool to appear in google searches.
It's free to use. Most of the pro-functions on other competition tools are free here.
What are your future goals for ScrollMe?
My goal is to help people create and run communities here. Transform those followers you've gathered into a community. We plan to make this happen by trading identities. I've been focusing on building communities for the last seven or eight years, and that's where I'll keep working.
What are the three things you've learned from your indie hacking journey?
Ok, the best thing I learned the hard way is to focus on a really small niche when you start. Don't worry about how big your business can get. When you're building an MVP, focus on one customer. Make them win at all costs.
What are your preferred ways of marketing?
My preferred ways of marketing? I go with what I can afford and I like doing. In that sense, it's "Content". Because if you do it well, it doesn't feel like marketing. You learn along the way, people find value and you get a customer too!
Any upcoming plans other than Scrollme?
Besides Scrollme.today, I'm focusing on building a tool to build accountability in teams and communities. It's again a simple tool that helps people share their updates, and help each other. It's called Bonfire.today. It's in the early stages. I'm right now talking to people, learning more about the problems.
Anything else that you want to share with the world (might not be related to tech)?
Plenty of advice and life lessons are out there. I am going to repeat one of them from my personal experience. Don't hustle, that's not good in any way. Believe, and continue doing good work without any expectations. Even if you can't earn a dollar tonight, see what you can do to make new friends. Your contacts are your real wealth!
