OpenAI's latest launch claims to open new horizons with ChatGPT

If you haven’t heard of it yet, OpenAI launched the ChatGPT Agent mode last week. This gives ChatGPT the ability to use its own virtual computer and complete tasks for you from start to finish.

ChatGPT already has a Deep Research mode which can go through hundreds of websites finding relevant text to answer your queries.
In January, OpenAI had also launched something called ‘Operator’, an agent with access to your browser.
I haven’t tried it, but Agent feels like a combination of both these tools (the same was mentioned in the launch video too).
If you give a long query to Agent (like completely planning and booking a vacation), it spins up a VM, makes use of Deep Research, its browser GUI, and a terminal to accomplish the task.
OpenAI also warned that just like any other user on the internet, Agent is not safe from attacks. Hackers might be able to persuade the agent to enter sensitive information on fake websites. The team encourages users not to let the agent enter sensitive information; rather, user should ‘take over’ and do sensitive tasks themselves.
Early Feedback
David Gewirtz from ZDNet used 25 out of the available 400 queries to Pro users. He wasn’t satisfied with the Agent. Although the Agent understood the problem very well, it failed to accomplish the task 7/8 times.
Is it worth $200/month for the Pro program? Not for Agent. At least not yet. Agent is unreliable and generally performs fairly poorly. In a year or so, I'm sure it will get better. But now? No. The only reason to spend $200 a month on it is to do what I'm doing: testing it to see where the technology is today.
