AI Image Generation Just Got Better - Again!

We have been seeing how Midjourney and Stable Diffusion have been improving every few months resulting in AI image generation becoming as close to reality as possible.

There’s a new really good player in town - Flux.

Flux, created by Black Forest Labs, is open-source and can be run on a wider range of systems with processors starting from RTX 4090.

Now, let’s be honest, Flux is NOT the best AI image generator. It’s close. But what’s important here is Flux is much more accessible.

Image generation models are not only getting better at realistic images. They are becoming faster and less resource-intensive.

There will soon be a point when anyone can create flawless human and animal images using AI on their personal laptops. I predict it to be somewhere in 2026.

Nicolas Neubert, creative director at RunwayML, expects it to be even sooner in reply to this post.

Whatever the exact timeline might be, we all can agree that it’s going to be soon and inevitable.

The most alarming threat of this would be deepfakes. There will be no way to differentiate reality and fiction. People already believe anything they see on the internet. Now, they would even have pictures and videos to confirm their biases.

In short, we’re doomed.

Social media will become an even more unreliable source of information. Criminal case investigations would be extremely difficult. Who knows if the murder photos are real or AI-generated? Who knows if the CCTV footage is real? Such edits can be made today too but are very time-consuming. When AI will be ready, this will be instant.

We’re not ready for what we’re bringing upon ourselves.
